Prover

The mechanical displacement meter prover allows for calibrating each meter to a known volumetric standard by displacing liquid between two points using a mechanical displacer inside the prover pipe, while recording the meter signal. The volume between switches is precalibrated using the water draw method with certified and traceable calibrated test measurements from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Additionally, an in situ prover permits continuous flow through the meter being calibrated, under actual flowing conditions, without the need to start or stop the flow. It's recommended to have a permanently installed prover for frequent calibration of meters and to maintain long-term accuracy. Measurement systems utilize bidirectional, unidirectional, and compact or small-volume prover types.

Sampling System

Meters are utilized to guarantee product quantity or volume, while a well-designed sampling system is employed to ensure product quality. This system may encompass a densitometer, BS&W monitor, pressure and temperature transmitters, sample containers, controllers, and other necessary instrumentation. A thorough mixing analysis is essential for the proper design of a sampling system tailored to a specific application.

Extracting the most representative sample from the flow stream is crucial and necessitates proper mixing. Sampling systems can range from a straightforward inline static mixer with a sample extraction probe to redundant jet mixing designs with heated enclosures and automatic container selection.

Control Panel

The control panel for a measurement system comprises an enclosure housing panel-mounted flow computers, a rack-mounted PLC, power supplies, and terminal strips for field wiring termination. The operator interface is a supervisory computer system, which includes an HMI with a desktop computer, a panel-mounted display screen, or both.

This supervisory system presents detailed graphics of the metering system on the display, featuring dynamic real-time operational information such as flow rates, temperatures, pressures, and valve positions. The control panel is programmed to automatically initiate meter provings, generate scheduled reports and exception reports, and raise alarms for out-of-tolerance conditions
