Flow Meter - Paddle Type

Paddlewheel flowmeters use the mechanical energy of the fluid to rotate a paddlewheel (just like a riverboat) in the flow stream. Paddles on the rotor are inserted into the flow to transform energy from the flow stream into rotational energy. The rotor shaft spins on bearings. When the fluid moves faster, the paddlewheel spins proportionally faster. Shaft rotation can be sensed mechanically or by detecting the movement of the paddles. Paddle movement is often detected magnetically, with each paddle or embedded piece of metal generating a pulse. When the fluid moves faster, more pulses are generated. The transmitter processes the pulse signal to determine the flow of the fluid.

The flow switches model DP01 operate according to the paddle principle. The flowing liquid pushes against the surface area of a paddle mounted at the end of a pivoting arm. The dynamic pressure against the plate deflects the arm. This motion causes a permanent magnet attached on the other end of the arm to switch an adjustable reed contact located outside the liquid being monitored. By moving the reed contact, different switching points can be set.

The flow switches model DP05 operate according to paddle bellows principle. The flowing liquid pushes against the surface area of a paddle mounted at the end of a pivoting arm. The arm is deflected against the force of a spring. This deflection is mechanically transmitted to an adjustable contact unit. A bellows systems hermetically seals the liquid off from the mechanism. In case of malfunction, the spring returns the paddle plate to the zero position (no flow), which causes the system to automatically
signal a fault.

The flow meters and switches model DP06 operate according to the paddle-bellows principle. The flowing liquid pushes against the surface area of a paddle mounted at the end of a pivoting arm. The arm is deflected against the force of a spring. This deflection is mechanically transmitted to a 270° dial-gauge display and a separately adjustable contact unit. A bellows system seals the liquid off from the mechanism. In case of malfunction, the spring returns the paddle plate to the zero position (no flow), which causes the system to automatically signal a fault.

The DK04 flap type flowmeter consists of a thin flexible flap which covers the complete cross section of the flow. This flap is moved by the liquid changing the position of a magnet. The magnet's position is detected by a Hall-sensor and the attached electronic unit generates a linearised electrical signal proportional to the flow.Due to the flexible flap and a special designed thrust bearing even heavy hydraulic shocks will not damage the device. flowmeter assures high reliable operation and it is very insensitive to particles in the flow

The DK10 series flap flow meter comprises a spring-loaded flap mounted in a hemispherical chamber. The flap is deflected by the flow in the line. The deflection is directly proportional to the flow rate. The movement of the flap is transmitted
via a shaft – that is sealed off from the process – to a mechanical pointer and the flow is displayed on a scale. One or two microswitches for flow monitoring or an analog output module can be installed in the display enclosure (optional). Each flow meter is calibrated for the liquid being monitored based on customer specifications. The devices are available with G or NPT threads for 1/4" to 2" pipes and as a wafer for
mounting between two DIN or ANSI flanges on DN80 (3") to DN200 (8") pipe sizes.

The flow switches model DPS10 transmit the flow-dependent displacement of the paddle installed in the piping by means of a bellows and a spring-loaded rocker mechanically connected to a heavy-duty microswitch. The switching point can be changed by adjusting the spring preload. The three standard paddles can be used in piping with nominal size of 1” to 3”. A fourth paddle can be used for larger nominal sizes or to reduce the switching values through appropriate shortening to the desired length. In addition, DPS10 is available in a design with a reduced adjustment range, so that it can also be used for minimum switching values.
